The message is the easy part
An assistant can take the order all day. The harder half is getting paid without sending the customer elsewhere, to a bank app, a card form, a separate link half of them never finish.
Every hop out of the chat is people you lose between yes and paid.
How payment in the chat works here
A payment gateway sits between WhatsApp and the mobile money networks every Tanzanian already uses: M-Pesa, Airtel Money and the rest. When the order is agreed, the customer gets the familiar prompt asking for their PIN.
They approve, the money moves, and the confirmation lands back in the conversation. No card, no new app, no leaving WhatsApp. It works the way people here already pay for everything else.
What it costs to collect
The networks and gateway take a small cut per transaction, set by them, not by us, so ask for it in writing before you commit, the same as the Tanzania rate Meta charges on messages.
It is not a new tax, it is the cost of getting paid digitally, the cut you already pay whenever money reaches you by phone rather than by hand.
The parts people forget
Taking the payment is one thing. A setup you can actually run also handles the four that get skipped.
- Reconciliation. The payment has to match itself to the right order on its own. Otherwise someone sits up at night matching numbers by hand, which is exactly the work you were trying to end.
- Receipts. A proper receipt the customer can keep, and your records kept in the shape your tax obligations expect, not a screenshot of a chat.
- Failed and half finished payments. The prompt the customer ignored, the PIN entered wrong, the network that timed out. Somebody has to notice and follow up, or that order just evaporates.
- Refunds. The occasional one, handled cleanly, so a return does not become an argument.
We read your till, we do not replace it
You already keep mobile money accounts and your own books. A good setup plugs in, reads from that, and leaves it where it is.
It does not ask you to change banks, rip out your till or move to some system only we understand. The payment stays yours, the accounts stay in your name, and if you ever stop, none of it leaves with us.

Straight answers
Can they pay by M-Pesa inside WhatsApp?
Yes. A gateway connects the chat to the mobile money networks. The customer approves a prompt on their phone and the confirmation comes back into the conversation.
What does it cost to collect?
A small cut per transaction, set by the networks and the gateway, not by us. Ask for the rate in writing. It is the normal cost of getting paid digitally.
Do I change my current setup?
No. It connects to the mobile money accounts you already use. We read from your setup rather than replacing it, and it stays in your name.
